The new NFPA 70E is just a few weeks from being published.  Here are a few upcoming changes that may have impact on your PPE approach and methodology:

  • Hazard Risk Category 0 has been removed
  • Tables have been restructured -determine if task is an arc flash hazard…then separate page for verifying system parameters for PPE determination
  • HRC globally removed and replaced with PPE level
  • 2 methods for determining selection of PPE -either but NOT Both methods can be used on same piece of equipment
  • Arc flash analysis revised to be “part” of an overall electrical risk assessment (label alone not necessarily enough to determine safe work practices)
  • Warning labels: Incident or arc flash PPE category to be on the label….BUT NOT BOTH
